15H: an interdisciplinary play in development.

15H is a multimedia performance that examines perception and truth in family myths. Set against the discordant backdrop of New York City in the late 1970’s, a young woman recalls the architecture of her childhood home and brings the past to life. Structured like a recorded interview her family answers questions, remembers and reflects. They weave in inner dialogues as songs and reconstructions of the past. As the young woman probes further, a beguiling stranger appears as a symbol of liberation and temptation. He leads the young woman through the subterranean waters of her father’s treachery and her mother’s abandonment to ask her own questions about love.

Frames shift in time and place, people break into song, statements are danced, monstrous figures appear in the shadows, and viewers are immersed in a sonic world that moves from rock to folkloric shanties to industrial punk explosions.

The play unfolds as a series of living portraits live and on screen. A wistful woman recalls her arrival in a new city. A man searches for himself. The two come together on a notion of love. A first child is born, then a second. A stranger arrives. Events collide, with howls of regret and costs to bear.

Set in an era heavily influenced by MTV, 15H uses music video to explore character and build filmic portraits.
